THE GLAMOUR OF BIG CLASS CLASSIC YACHT RACING RETURNS TO COWES

...........and we were be there to begin a new series of paintings dedicated to this new event

.

Minus the power boats, container ships, cruise boats, power plants and jets this is how it looked 100 years ago.

Here are three samples of over 4000 images taken over the week long event. Complements to the owner, skipper
and crew, as good as it gets!

Mariquita draws a crowd on the Solent Saturday Morning

Mariquita at the Needles

Mariquita in light fog at the Needles

Mariquita is powered by wind and muscle. Hauling up the main requires all hands and a shanty
keeps the crew in sync. Here is a link to a video of the traditional shanty sung when departing
port and the very one I heard on the Solent from the deck of Mariquita ( with a few variations of course).
