Wreck of the Jeune Hortense 17th May 1888

RNLI
ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION
...is a volunteer group much like our Coast Guard. The boat in this painting is DORA out
of the Penzance Station in Cornwall. She saved three crewmen and a boy on 17 May 1888.
Once they were safely aboard DORA the rider and horse drew the lifeboat ashore to safety.
Conflicting reports have the Jeune Hortense refloated but some say
she was broken up on the beach.
Since she does not appear in the list of wrecks it can be assumed that like her crew, she survived
and returned to Nantes, France, her home port.
